PT OT ETHICS AND JURISPRUDENCE COURSE

February 28, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 12:30 pm

The goal of this course is to satisfy Georgia’s requirement that physical and occupational therapists, as well as physical and occupational therapy assistants, practicing in the state participate periodically in continuing education offerings on ethics and law.  During this 4-hour course, various ethical and legal principles in the practice of physical and occupational therapy will be reviewed and applied to clinical case studies.

The course will feature information and case discussions on the Georgia Physical Therapy Association’s Primer on “Preventing Fraud, Waste, and Abuse” (at http://www.apta.org/uploadedFiles/APTAorg/Practice_and_Patient_Care/Ethics/Integrity/PreventingFraudPrimer-Presentation.pdf ).   Additional presentations will discuss contentious issues in allocating health care resources (especially to the needy or underinsured), communication techniques for managing difficult or challenging people, and ethical issues connected to the use of stem cells for repairing neurological injury and, possibly, enhancing normal function to “super functioning.”
